A Night at the Fitzgerald
I know this is a bit late, but I wanted to say how much fun I had singing with The New Standards the other night at the Fitzgerald. In fact, that night was probably the most fun I've had at a show in awhile- mainly because I didn't really have to do much.

My typical preshow routine consists of me fretting about my set or worrying about people showing up. I twitch nervously in some backstage closet. Then, I go to the bathroom 4 or 5 times for good measure and then waltz on stage.

In sharp contrast, the preshow routine at the Fitz was relaxed and fun. I wandered around backstage talking with one charming individual after another. Then I went out on stage, sang a song, and moseyed on back. Easy as pie.

Someone over at the Semisonic message boards described me as "looking scraggly and nerdy but crooning clear and beautiful." I thought that was awfully nice, yet very fitting (at least the nerdy and scraggly parts anyway).
Comments:
Yeah I think that's a fair description. I would add "out of his gourd." Congrats on the Fitz show. Got "Alcatraz Kid" in the mail and it's superb, of course. OK pop quiz hotshot: Johnny Staccato vs. Alcatraz Kid in a fistfight, who would win? And how many z's can a person use in one paragraph? You have ten seconds.

The Fitz show was so, so awesome. I felt privileged to see some of the best Twin Cities musicians all together! On the one hand, I wish you could have sang a few more, on the other, there were so many other excellent people there I was happy to get a chance to hear them too. (It was also nice to get to hear you sing before 11 or 12 at night, I'm getting "old" and often can't stay up that late!)

congrats on 13th place!!! if you would just add some fire-eaters and strippers to your live show, it should be a lock for 1st place next year...
