i really should work for a living.
so guess what i did at work last night? yep, you guessed it- i watched three movies. here's what i thought:
1. the missing this has cate blanchett and tommy lee jones in it. not sure why they would choose to be in this movie since it sucked. maybe it was because ron howard directed it. then again, he kind of sucks too. granted, some of his films are getting a little recognition (a beautiful mind), but overall he really bores me. on a total tangent, has drew barrymore ever been in a good movie? so basically, the missing is an estranged father and daughter buddy movie set in the old west. there's something about a kidnapping and an indian witch or something, but i guess i spent about an hour and a half not caring what happened. 2. the great escape there is no reason why this movie should be 3 hours long. so a bunch of guys want to break out of a nazi prison camp- can we do it in 2? and do we have to watch steve mcqueen ride a dirt bike for a half hour while evading half of the third reich? that said, this is a pretty cool movie. definitely some kind of man movie though- not one female in this film as i can recall. 3. in the heat of the night great movie. i've never really spent any time in the south (except for being born there), but wow does it look like a bizarre place (at least circa 1967). can any southerners verify that it has changed? anyway, this is about a black detective who helps a white sheriff solve a murder. good acting, dialogue ("they call me MR. TIBS!"), and some cool little plot twists. go see it. i can only think of two good drew barrymore films - e.t. and donnie darko. thoughts? |
